From audit floors to AI roadmaps
I started my career inside a multinational — finance, sales, logistics, internal audit. Different departments, same lesson everywhere: most businesses don't fail for lack of effort. They fail because nobody mapped the way the work actually flows. The CPA, CIA, and CPM after my name come from that era — I learned to read a business before I ever tried to change one.
Then I became a builder. I co-founded Tarkie, field-work automation now used by 15,000+ employees at companies like Globe, Samsung, Uratex, Brother, and Chooks-to-Go. Watching field teams move from paper reports to a platform taught me the thing I still teach today: technology doesn't just speed work up — it changes what the work is. Since 2014 that has added up to 200+ digital transformation projects with Philippine companies.
Somewhere along the way, the teaching became the main event. I co-founded Olern, the AI training company I lead as CEO, and through it I've run AI workshops for SME owners, managers, and their teams across the country — and the moment I keep coming back for is the same one every time: a business owner, halfway through an exercise, saying "Oh, I can actually do this."
Those workshops kept surfacing the same question — "where do we even start?" — and the answer became The 4A AI Roadmap by Jerry Ilao: a four-level map of AI adoption distilled from those 200+ projects. It's the spine of everything on this site, every talk I give, and every workshop I run.
And because some businesses are ready for AI that does real work — not just advice — I went back to building. That story lives on the AI agents page, clearly labeled as mine.

PAIBA — the civic side of the work
I'm the Founding President and co-founder of the Philippine AI Business Association (PAIBA) — Asia's first AI business association, built to help Filipino SMEs adopt AI.
People ask why the name. PAIBA translates to "be different," which matters in business.
But as a Bicolano, paiba has a second meaning for me. When I was a kid, going somewhere far, somewhere I didn't know, I would ask my friends or my siblings: "Paiba" — samahan mo ako, join me, because I'm afraid.
Now, I think businesses and entrepreneurs are feeling the same thing. Nobody knows exactly what the next five or ten years of AI will bring and what it will do to your company. Whether you're an employee, a manager, or a CEO, nobody knows what lies ahead at the end of the AI Era…
That's the promise of the association. PAIBA exists so Filipino businesses don't make that journey alone. We can take this journey together and help each other.
In January 2026, PAIBA signed a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Science and Technology–National Capital Region (DOST-NCR) to bring AI-focused support into DOST programs for MSMEs, startups, and researchers — covered by The Manila Times and BusinessWorld.
PAIBA is a civic role and a biographical credential. The association does not endorse any company or product, including the author's — the work I do through PAIBA is separate from any business I run.
